Having released their self-titled debut EP in July, Brisbane four-piece Hungry Kids of Hungry’s infectious first single ‘Set It Right’ has just been added to high rotation on Triple J. Helping celebrate the national radio network’s Aus Music Month, the single has been a favourite on Unearthed since its release and has helped create a profile for the young band.

The news of this increased airplay couldn’t have come at a better time, as the band prepare for another slather of shows to close a productive 2008 before heading back into the studio to demo some brand new material. Coming up, they have show slated with a vast array of excellent Aussie talent including the Devoted Few, The Basics, The Boat People, Kid Confusious, Washington and the Seabellies.

While the mention of their name often invokes raised eyebrows and amused smiles among the uninitiated, Hungry Kids of Hungary produce music that inspires equal measures of curiosity and joy. Forming in March 2007, the band have wasted no time in carving out a name for themselves in the Brisbane music scene, helped along by air play on triple J’s 2008 and Home and Hosed programs to name a few. Dressing their immaculate indie tunes with a healthy dose of 60’s pop sensibility and lashings of soul, the Hungry Kids have clearly done their rock history homework, but manage to apply their learning without ever sounding formulaic. After launching the EP in July this year, they have since made it their mission to play as many shows as possible while also planning their follow-up release for 2009.

Another cruisey Sunday arvo type pop song from these guys… Give it a few listens and it will be hard to shake.’ – Richard Kingsmill, Triple J Unearthed review of ‘Set It Right’

‘Seamless, intelligent shimmering pop with instant appeal and that classic songwriting stamp on songs made to last like Set It Right, One By One and Arrest This Heart.’
– Pat Whyte, The Courier Mail
